Be aware that there is discussion among weavers online about the difficulty of selling looms wider than 40" or 45". I'm 5'4" and can't throw a shuttle that width. My friend is 5'11" tall and comfortably weaves blankets on it. It's a wonderful, beautiful loom, and yes, LARGE. Regarding width, one of my friends has a Toika Eeva 59" 8 shaft loom. Toika, Glimakra, LeClerc, Schacht, and Harrisville (to name a few) all offer looms that can weave rugs. For sturdy rugs, a sturdy floor loom is best. no, you don't need this loom - there are many smaller and less expensive table and floor looms that will suffice. What type of fabric, and at what width? For scarves, shawls, towels, etc. You asked "Do I need this other loom and why?" That depends on what you want to weave.
